I long to run my fingers
Through those coffee colored curls
Stare in those eyes
As deeps as the great pacific

As long as the western shore

As it took the great redwoods
To grow so gigantic
So massive and towering

Out of fondness with you

Jagged and rocky
Like that mountain chain
That is the spine of America
Fractured like the fault lines

My attraction to you may not be
Everlasting or eternal
Or as wide and deep
As all the world’s seas combine
It is not fleeting or fickle
Like a stone being pounded by
Storm waves and rising tides
Enduring, but it will eventually crumble
